The importance of Market Traders Insurance

shutterstock_166581263As a market trader you could be open to legal action being taken against you in respect of your legal responsibility for personal injury or property damage arising during the course of your marketing activities. Regardless of whether you operate outside or inside and the frequency with which you trade, it’s important to consider covering your business activities.

Public liability

This will indemnify you in respect of your legal liability for injury or damage as a result of your negligence, or the negligence of your employees. An example might be if your stall were to collapse and cause injury to a member of the public, or if someone tripped over a cable. It’s easy to see how valuable such cover could prove in the future.

Product liability

This will indemnify you in respect of your legal liability for injury or damage caused by the supply of a product sold by you from your stall. This is important cover if, say, you sell food made at home – it would come into play if customers contracted food poisoning and sought financial redress from you. If you are selling food or drink products on your stall, you must register with your local authority. You’ll then be subject to inspection and be told if you need to have a certificate or licence.

Employers’ liability

This is obligatory if you have one or more people working for you on your stall. It could also be someone helping you to transport items to and from your base.

Insurance is so important today, and here at C.M.T.I.A. Ltd we’ve made it very simple to arrange.
